Public Benefits

A criminal conviction does not necessarily prevent you from receiving benefits, including food stamps, Medicaid, Medicare, Social Security and Social Security Disability Income.

A good place to start is the Federal Interagency Reentry Council’s Reentry MythBusters – it helps dispel common myths about what federal benefits you may be able to access, even if you’ve been convicted of a felony.

Other good resources include the Geneva Department of Health & Human Services site, the Social Security Administration, and the Benefits section of this presentation.
